TRAVEL
PLANNING TO TRAVEL ABROAD
Prior to traveling to Portugal we recommend the following:
Book lodging early! Ericeira, Portugal is a small coastal town with limited lodging options. We recommend booking your accommodation ASAP to ensure best prices and availability. Please note that provided transportation to wedding events will leave from downtown Ericeira. To avoid additional transportation, we encourage you to book one of our recommended hotels or an Airbnb within walking distance of downtown (map provided in lower sections).
Wedding Party: We have booked a private historic 'Portuguese summer camp' estate for the wedding party to stay together 5 minutes outside of town (your partners are invited to stay with us as well, of course). We will be following up with additional information but in the meantime, please do not book other accommodation.
All Other Beloved Guests: Please read below sections to learn more about our lodging recommendations and the discount codes we are providing to our wedding guests. Of course, please reach out to us with any questions.
Check the expiration date of your passport!!! Portugal, and other European countries will not let you in if your passport expires within 3 months of your arrival date (not to mention, you won’t be able to fly out of the US). So if your passport expires in August of 2025, or sooner, then you should renew your passport in 2024. Passports take 3 - 4 months to renew! There is also a new visa process required to enter Europe starting in (supposedly) 2025 - please keep this in mind and plan accordingly.
FLIGHTS
We recommend flying into Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon when traveling to Portugal. For the best prices, aim to buy in August or September. If you're traveling from the US there are a lot of international airlines that offer flights - just remember to watch your layover times as under 2 hours can be stressful for connections.
If you're planning to travel to Europe earlier in May before the wedding there are a number of regional airlines like EasyJet, Ryanair, and TAP Portugal that offer flights into Lisbon.
TAP Portugal, in particular, offers a great Stopover program. This option is perfect if you’re considering traveling to other parts of Europe after the wedding. You’ll have to add an additional layover in the US on the East Coast, as TAP doesn’t visit Denver, but the Stopover program will allow you to use Lisbon as a “Layover” for up to 10 days before you carry over to your final destination. With this you can fly to Lisbon, stopover for your desired stay, then continue on to your final destination without having to pay for two plane tickets (1 to Lisbon and a 2nd to wherever). GETTING TO ERICEIRA
Uber, Rental, Taxi, or Bus. The drive from Lisbon to Ericeira is only 30-45 minutes depending on traffic and fortunately, Ubers are very reliable and reasonably priced.
An Uber from Lisbon to Ericeira is $40-$100 based on the size of the car and time of day. Ubers are also available in Ericeira and will usually be $5-$10.
Taxis are also available and we recommend pre-booking if you choose this option. It is more expensive to just pick a taxi at the airport so we recommend arranging transportation before you land.

For more flexibility, you can also rent a car at Lisbon airport. This can be as cheap as $10/day plus additional coverage and taxes. Total price to rent a car for the weekend can be $60-$100. Please note you do not need to rent a car unless you would like to since it’s a short distance from Lisbon to Ericeira and then most events will be walkable and/or have provided transportation.
Finally, if you'd like to sample the local public transportation there are public buses that run from Campo Grande terminal to Ericeira bus station (Terminal Rodoviário) and take ~around an hour. From the bus station in Ericeira, it’s about a 1.5 km walk downhill to the center of town and the nearest beach.
